I love working with others on impactful projects, helping them reach their full potential. I am currently exploring the many career paths CS has to offer, and am considering also minoring in Media, Arts, and Design. On campus I am involved with research under Assistant Professor Marshini Chetty studying how children understand online privacy and security.
Here are my current roles within student clubs:
My interests outside of academics include video games, reading, food, taking pictures, running, biking, and exploring Chicago. I’d love to chat about any of these topics!

I was born in Fremont, CA on February 20, 2000 before my family decided to move to Stockton, CA shortly after. Both my parents and older brother originally lived in China before immigrating to the US a few years before I was born. My middle name, Yuting (雨婷), is my Chinese name, meaning “pretty rain”. I have been privileged to have a supportive family that encourages me to pursue whatever I wish to.
In the summer before my senior year in high school, I attended an iD Tech summer camp that introduced me to both coding and video games, ultimately having a lasting impact on my life. I decided to pursue Computer Science in college, and discovered the world of video games. Since then, I has been an avid gamer, playing both multiplayer and indie games. Some of my favorite games include League of Legends, Valorant, GTA V, the Tomb Raider Triology, Hollow Knight, and many, many more.
After getting waitlisted for UChicago, I was admitted as a gap year student. Even though it was a challenging time, full of doubts and struggles, I am proud of being accepted into one of the best colleges in the nation. I learned a lot about rejection and accepting failure as a step to success. During my gap year, I interned for my local Congressman and traveled the world with my family. Since then, I have been furthering my the steps in my CS career, and will be interning at Citigroup in the Summer of 2021.
On campus, I’m involved with a multitude of different student organizations. During my first year, I helped co-found the UChicago Overwatch Club, which eventually trasitioned into the UChicago E-Sports Club, becoming a community for all types of players. I also joined ChoMUN, UChicago’s MUN conference, and Pi Beta Phi, IL Kappa Chapter. In the Fall of my second year, I joined compileHer, an organization dedicated to getting women in STEM by engaging girls with tech in the local community, as the Outreach Assistant.
I also love playing music (flute and piano), reading, running, biking, cooking, and playing video games in my free time, most of which I discovered in the Winter of 2021!
Various past and present projects I have worked on
A personal project that simulates an entire game of Monopoly with no player input. No friendships online, and it’s over in a matter of minutes! That’s why I call it Monopoly without the Pain.
A research project focused on understanding children’s understanding privacy and security, and developing a lesson plan that teachers them about those topics.
Various homeworks and projects done while taking Intro to Programming Languages
A linter that flags accessibility issues in data visualizations. Created with two UChicago grad students for the ‘Designing for Underrepresented and Marginalized Populations’ class.
Various projects I worked on while taking Intro to Computer Systems.
Chiventure is a game engine in which I worked on Action Management with other team members. Please note it is on its second iteration so work my team and I have done may have been changed.
